PHOENICIA, NEW YORK --  The family classic “Miracle on 34th Street” will come to life on stage this holiday season in a unique live radio version performed by a regional cast, live on the boards at Phoenicia’s STS Playhouse.

“Miracle” is best known as a 1947 hit comedy-drama filml by George Seaton about the chaos that ensues when a Macy’s Santa Clause claims to be the real thing, and his impact on his cynical boss and her equally disbelieving little girl. But the STS production is based on Seaton’s adaption for radio, presented the following year as part of the Lux Radio Hour, featuring members of the original cast of the movie, including Maureen O’Hara and Edmund Gwenn. STS’s version is set in a radio station studio on the night of the original Lux broadcast on December 20, 1948.  A cast of eleven portrays over twenty characters in a story set between Thanksgiving and Christmas in New York City.  Adding to the fun will be the announcer’s recreation of vintage-style radio ads of the day, but using Phoenicia area businesses to give it a local twist.

The STS production will be directed by longtime STS veteran Linda Burkhardt.  The cast members are Tom Alfano, Kailee Cornelison, David Dancyger, Ann Davies, Erin Giuditta, Bridget Harkin, Burr Hubble, Jeremy McLaughlin, Amos Newcombe, Alan Shevlo, and Faye Storms.

Other crew members include: Sound Designer:  Gary Kromirs, Stage Manager:  Brook Harrison, Costume Designer: Linda Burkhardt, Set Design: Michael Koegel and Burr Hubble, and Lightning Designer: John Stobaeus.

In the spirit of the season and to promote family outings,
and to encourage children being exposed to the magic of live theater, STS is offering a special kids ticket promotion.  Tickets are priced at the throwback price of $5 for all children age 12 or under, accompanied by an adult, with general admission tickets priced at $20, and $18 for students and seniors.

Advance reservations are strongly encouraged by phoning the STS Box Office at (845) 688-2279, and tickets can also be bought at the theater's box office, located at 10 Church Street, Phoenicia.

The STS Playhouse proudly celebrates its 40th anniversary this year.  Launched as the Shandaken Theatrical Society in 1976, STS remains a pillar of the Phoenicia community.  STS is staffed by dedicated volunteers who produce a diverse array of programming, including musicals, contemporary and classic plays, original works by regional
playwrights, cabaret performances, a film series, and annual free family holiday show, readings, performances by local musicians, and workshops for both adults and children.
