Steam Engine Rolls Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 in Arkville
Arkville, NY — For the first time in half-a-century a steam engine will be rolling along the tracks Delaware & Ulster Railroad in Arkville on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 30 and Oct. 1.
The D&U will host The Haunts of Rip Van Winkle by Steam during a series of special one-hour steam train rides this weekend. This will be an exciting way to enjoy the blazing spectacle of the autumn foliage in the Catskills. Steam Train Departures from Arkville to Halcottsville on September 30 and October 1 are scheduled for 9:00 a.m., 10:50 a.m., 1:15 p.m. and 3:15 p.m.Regular train departures from Arkville to Roxbury on both days are set for 11:10 a.m. and 2:15 p.m.
Passengers will have the opportunity to relive the days of steam railroading on the Delaware & Ulster Railroad and hear the sounds of the mighty whistle echo through the Catskill Mountains, as the wisps of steam and smoke trail behind our train as it chuffs along from Arkville to Halcottsville, through the East Branch of the Delaware River Valley.
Fares for the one-hour Steam Train Ride to Halcottsville are $25 for adults, $20 for Senior Citizens and $15 for children under 12. Regular fares will be in effect for the D&U’s Excursion Train during the weekend.
