MIDSUMMER MADNESS IS NEW COMEDY ON OPEN EYE STAGE

Playwright and director Tania Myren has been enticed to open Midsummer Madness,  her new comedy play about veteran actors, at The Open Eye Theater with a front line cast of Open Eye talent for a run beginning July 12th and continuing to July 22nd.  Her story is about a currently separated married couple who have spent the four decades of their professional careers traveling from city to city, playing the Shakespeare Festival Circuit.  A summer production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream in rural Pennsylvania is the setting for the possibility of renewing their relationship and spinning off on new adventures. Amie Brockway, Erwin Karl, Jerrold Reinstein and Carol Schwartz are the players.

“The action is both on stage and backstage in this funny and worthy new work,” Open Eye Board Member Gail Lennstrom explained in announcing the new production. “Tania is a recognized playwright, with several awards, and this comedy is delicious. We are all very glad she could direct Midsummer Madness here.”

“Jerrold Reinstein,” Ms. Lennstrom continued, “has a long career as a teacher in a New York City school with a theater program.  He was memorable as Henry Stanton in The Open Eye’s production of Seneca  Falls in 2017.  Carol Schwartz has had 30 years of theater work focused on educational and youth theater.  She played three memorable roles most recently in Sandy and the Weird Sisters.  Erwin Karl, who will again step out of his technical director box, was the unforgettable Schoolmaster and Doctor in Anne of Green Gables.  Amie Brockway, who has temporarily handed over some of the duties of producing artistic director to board members, was last onstage as Grandma Dowdell in A Year Down Yonder and as one of the four actors in the Finding Mr. Lincoln ensemble.”

Performances of Midsummer Madness will be at The Open Eye Theater, 960 Main St. in Margaretville for two weekends starting Thursday, July 12th to Sunday, July 16th and again on Thursday, July 19th to Sunday, July 22nd .  Thursday to Saturday evening performances are at 7:00 PM and Sundays at 3:00PM.  The audience on Opening Night, Thursday, July 12, is invited to a wine and hors d’oeuvres reception at 6:15, hosted by the theater trustees.

Admission:  $20.00 for adults; $15.00 for seniors; $10.00 for youth to age 26.  The theater is fully accessible, and air conditioned. Handicap parking is in front at the ramp. Regular parking is in the rear with a walkway to the entrance. Call 845-586-1660 or go to openeye@catskill.net for reservations and family, group, or handicap arrangements.  Hearing impaired?
