New Art Exhibit at the Catskill Watershed Corporation
Rebecca Andre’s “Catskills Light” at the CWC in Margaretville

MARGARETVILLE, N.Y., July 17, 2019– Catskill seasonal photographs by Rebecca Andre are now on display at the Catskill Watershed Corporation (CWC) in Margaretville. The public is welcome to view the display “Catskills Light,” at the CWC, 905 Main Street, weekdays from 8 to 4:30 (closed September 2). The show will be up through September 13.

This show includes 19 photographs, woven with poetry inspired by the images Andre captures with her lens. Her poetry demonstrates her deep love for the Catskill Mountains and the people who live here. All of the work is for sale.

Andre was born and raised on farms outside Baltimore. She is now a Halcottsville resident and owns Mountain Girl Photography and Design. She has worked as a reporter for the Watershed Post, as food and lodging writer for Kaatskill Life, and other Catskill travel guides, along with being published in Catskill Made and Chronogram. Rebecca is also the Social Media Marketing Director for Verglas Media.

In 2013 Rebecca settled in Delaware County with her husband Mark and their daughter Isabella. Since then she has combined poems with images, as in her 2017, “In Bloom” exhibition at the Commons Gallery in Margaretville, where her works shared the walls with painters Alix Hallman Travis and Mary Davis. During the 2018 AMR Studio Tour, Rebecca again presented her photography woven with poetry.

Rebecca and her family have become well known, permanent transplants to the Catskills, the one place she feels most like home.

The CWC is a non-profit, Local Development Corporation responsible for several environmental protection, economic development and education programs in the New York City Watershed West of the Hudson River. FMI: 845-586-1400. www.cwconline.org

Pretty Saro, burst into the Boston bluegrass scene in early 2016, shaking up the definition of American roots music. Since then the four-piece string band has been crafting their invigorating blend of contemporary songwriting, burnin’ bluegrass traditionals, and modern sensibilities into a sound that is uniquely their own. Dynamic arrangements and high-energy performances enhance the Saro’s (sair-ohs) stories of commitment and desertion, taking the listener on a journey through their personal experiences.

Pretty Saro draws their inspiration from acoustic giants such as Nickel Creek, Crooked Still, Hot Rize, and John Hartford to name a few. Maxfield Anderson (mandolin), Devon Gardner (fiddle), Alex Formento (guitar), and Joe Everett (bass) bring together their wide array of musical backgrounds, to create music that follows in the footsteps of their heroes, without fear of wandering off the beaten path.

The band has appeared on stages throughout the Northeast at FreshGrass Festival, Joe Val Bluegrass Festival, Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival, Club Passim, Daryl’s House Club, and is currently coming off a win in the 2018 Telefunken Band Competition at Podunk Bluegrass Festival.

PHCC Concert Series Presents:
Kim Hawkey Holiday Concert

December 30
8pm
Back by popular demand.
Kim Hawkey & Band will perform a their unique take on holiday favorites.

Kimberly Hawkey is a singer, dreamer, lyricist and song revivalist based in lower New York State. Floating between New York City, the Hudson Valley and the Catskill Mountains, Kimberly chooses American Song to spread light, love and connection to the wider world. She paints a time-defying soundscape using her crystal-clear voice across familiar and original melodies; at times soaring and whimsical; at times brassy and witty - but rarely without an element of surprise. Supported by a world-class jazz ensemble, Kimberly's vision of Hollywood-esque romance coupled with the spirit of America's truest voices comes to full screen. A modern experience of new and old, audiences can expect to hear a thoughtfully curated blend of vaudeville, hot jazz, folk music, cabaret and contemporary jazz flowing seamlessly through the ages. Kimberly's stage performances are an escapist's dream, allowing the listener to drift into the transformative, and often nostalgic, sea of collective story, sound and song.
