Spuyten Duyvil bring American Roots to Phoenicia

Roots Music Concert!
Hudson Valley based Spuyten Duyvil brings barn burning blend of folk, roots, blues and traditional music to the Flying Cat Music Series at the Empire State Railway Station, Phoenicia

Saturday evening August 12th

7:30 show.

Tickets are $15/17

70 Lower High Street,  Phoenicia

"Infused in Blues and Smoked with Folk…An Americana Treasure Chest”  No Depression

“Masters of High Octane Americana”  WFUV

Nominated for BEST FOLK ALBUM in 2016 by The Int’l Folk Alliance

On Saturday August 12th, acclaimed Folk Festival favorites Spuyten Duyvil(pronounced "SPITE-en DIE-vul") returns to Phoenicia’s historic railway station to raise the roof with their original  "raucous roots" (NYT) with a side of alternative folk rock.  The show features their International Folk Music Awards' "Album Of The Year" nominated:

"The Social Music Hour Vol. 1".

Rounding out the band's seasonal set list is a fresh flight of re-imagined traditional songs and their new International Folk DJ Top 20 original "The Warmth Of Other Suns".  Borrowing novelist Richard Wright's phrase and paying homage to Isabel Wilkerson's (http://isabelwilkerson.com/) thought provoking, timely and moving book of the same name, this inspiring song of resistance is available as a free download from the band's website.

“This is as close to a musical "Come to Jesus" moment as you'll get outside the gospel roots of the deep south. Yonkers, NY based Spuyten Duyvil are the real deal when it comes to roots revivalist Americana music. Historians, outstanding songwriters, accomplished musicians and a musical family atmosphere converge to make some of the most outstanding music around today.”  - The Alternate Root TV

SHANDAKEN DAY AT BIG INDIAN PARK

2017 Shandaken Day will be Saturday, August 19th at Big Indian Park.
10 am – 6pm
8293 Rt. 28, Big Indian NY 12410
2017 Shandaken Day Vendor Letter & Application

SHANDAKEN DAY History
Shandaken Day evolved from the Town of Shandaken’s Bicentennial Celebration in 2004. Since it’s inception Shandaken Day has been promoted as a day to explore everything that makes Shandaken a great place to visit and live. The day of the event boasts fifty vendors, LIVE music, a variety of food vendors, a fire department Tug-o-War and a multitude of Kids Games (including the crowd favorite watermelon-eating contest). We also take this opportunity to recognize local notables for leaving a positive lasting impression on our community with the Pride of Shandaken and Hamlet Hero Awards. Over the years the event has moved to different locations to highlight each of the twelve hamlets that comprise Shandaken.

So far Shandaken Day has been hosted by the following communities:

Mt. Tremper, Mt. Pleasant, Phoenicia, Allaben, Shandaken, Bushnellsville, Big Indian, Oliverea and Pine Hill.

Shandaken Day is usually the last Saturday in the Month of August.

ADVERTISING

Every year the Kingston Daily Freeman puts together a special advertising insert specifically for Shandaken Day. The insert highlights the activities and dignitaries to be honored at this year’s event as well as local businesses and organizations. They also provide us with considerably reduced ad rates for the insert. If you would like to place an advertisement, or If you have any questions, please email Brenda Williams at the Freeman at: bwilliams@freemanonline or call (845) 331-5000 [ext.467]

If you are interested in participating in the event, or would like to volunteer. Please contact the Supervisor’s Office.
