The Greater Margaretville Chamber of Commerce will honor the Community of Fleischmanns at its annual chamber dinner on Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at La Cabana Restaurant in Fleischmanns, NY. The dinner begins with a cocktail hour at 5:30 and dinner at 6:30pm. Keynote speaker will be Peter Manning, Regional Planner for the Catskill Center for Conservation and Development.
The Community of Fleischmanns is enthusiastically focused on improving its ability to address issues relating to revitalization, recreation and renewing its historic significance as a tourism destination. With important support and guidance by the MARK Group the Fleischmanns First collaborative committee was formed last summer to create a forum for residents to talk about what is important to them and to set goals and action plans. The group adopted a set of bylaws and has established membership. Committees include: communications, revitalization, recreation and events planning. The events committee made up of community residents and other interested people from surrounding areas is planning a Memorial Day Weekend filled with traditional street fair activities, lots of food, Vintage Base Ball games at Wagner Field, heritage walks along historic Wagner Ave., kids activities, and an old-fashioned Memorial Day Parade on Monday beginning at 9am. The hard work and commitment of the Fleischmanns Village Board and Mayor Kathy Wilber have continued to seek ways to improve the village and protect its interests for the betterment of its residents and businesses. The successful completion of the NYC DEPís water treatment facility is an important infrastructure upgrade necessary for appropriate development and restoration for the Village. The GMCC is pleased to be honoring the Community of Fleischmanns for its dedication, hard work and renewed spirit.
